Self Defence Training in the Workplace – Why I personally don’t think its a good way forwards.
In the past few days I have had several discussions about this and whether I should change my view. One that I have repeatedly put on here in a number of posts which has not always been a welcome opinion.
Firstly let me state I have clients on both sides of the debate so financially although it affects which pot the £&$ go in, the overall revenue is the same to me.
My main issue with teaching self defence in the workplace is that to be effective in an actual confrontation you need to have the techniques ingrained within your motor skills. You need hundreds if not thousands of repetitions to be able to use them effectively if attacked.
If you are not used to physical conflict your adrenaline will be pumping, your levels of fear will be off the scale and you are confronting someone who is prepared and possibly without any moral constraint.
I train people every day in physical conflict, trust me its not as easy as some would have you believe.
Within the workplace, unless already skilled in physical conflict I prefer teaching workshops on awareness training and risk in order to avoid that conflict situation.
